Elena Bruno is a university researcher (assistant professor, SSD FIS/03 Physics of Matter), permanent employed, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania since 31/12/2010. The research activity has contributed to the training of specialist and professional expertise both in the preparation and processing of materials and their characterization, acquiring a remarkable mastery in the use of many facilities (e.g. many deposition techniques, ion implantation, pulsed laser processing, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, reflection of high energy electron diffraction, electrical measurements, etc). The prolonged presence in the lab has allowed, among other things, a good maturation of management of ultra-high-vacuum systems, the procedures for substrate preparation through both chemical and physical processes, the main behavior rules to observe in controlled atmosphere areas, etc. She reported the research results in more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact factor international scientific journals, in 13 oral (some of which invited talks) and 3 poster contributions in national and international conferences. She has also a long experience as a journal paper reviewer. She received 4 awards for her student and young researcher career. She took part in the organization of several scientific international workshops, conferences and meeting. She has been involved in several national and international scientific projects. She has been a reviewer on several national projects (PRIN). She has a long experience in supervising students, thanks to her academic role at the University of Catania. Indeed, she supervised several students in their undergraduate, degree and PhD thesis works. Moreover, she strongly worked as a tutor in several scientific labs, in order to form/inform high-school, undergraduate, graduate and PhD students and post-doc researchers. Since 2012 she has been a member of the faculty board of the "Science of materials and nanotechnology” PhD course at the University of Catania. She is strongly involved in a lot of scientific dissemination activities.
